At the same time, we’re fortunate enough to be able to learn from the mistakes of the individuals that came before us. It’s a time honored story that will always exist. Man (or woman) grows up wanting to be President of the United States (or some other ambitious and prestigious position). Man gets sidetracked by the amenities of the so called American Dream. Man turns 50 years old wondering what the heck he’s done with his life. Those conscious enough of history, and its uncanny ability to repeat itself, will find themselves able to successfully navigate the potential pitfalls of life. We know what we have to do, now we just have to do it.
If you only have one life to live, make it the most amazing life possible. Why not be extraordinary? As kids we all have dreams of being extraordinary. Those dreams don’t have to stop after high school or college. They might change, but they don’t have to stop. Let’s make this a little closer to home for you Flow peeps. Well over half of the nation is obese. They are riddled with preventable diseases and hopped up on medications designed to mask symptoms rather than fix the causes. These people are ordinary. They are living what we come to expect as living a normal American life.Being extraordinary is merely a matter of recognizing the distinction between the two and taking action.
Make no mistake about it, you’ll have to do extraordinary things if you want to be extraordinary. You’ll have to actually take your life by the scruff of the neck and guide it where you want it to go. No one ever said it was easy, but, at the same time, the difference between ordinary and extraordinary isn’t as big as you might think. Showing up to the gym 5x per week is extraordinary. Eating a perfect diet all the time is extraordinary. Quitting drinking, smoking, and partying all night are all extraordinary things. These are all perfectly doable tasks, and those who successfully implement them will become extraordinary. They’ll quickly see the dividends in their performances in the gym, their bodies, and they way they feel. There is no extraordinary fitness and health without doing these things, no matter how much you convince yourself you’re capable of both. If the opposite were the case there’d be 1000 other Rich Fronings walking around this world. There isn’t. Not because it’s impossible, but because too many people are trying to be extraordinary by bypassing doing extraordinary things.
There’s a reason professional athletes, movie stars, and high ranking political officials are where they are. They went above and beyond the norms of society in order to achieve what they envisioned for themselves. Kobe Bryant doesn’t leave the gym until he makes anywhere between 700 to 1000 shots a day. If nobody else is doing that same thing, do you think he’ll be a step ahead of the competition? I think so. That’s the sort of above-and-beyond work ethic that separates himself, and individuals like him, from the rest of the “ordinary” pack.
So maybe the chance for you to be President of the United States has come and gone. That doesn’t mean you can’t be extraordinary in other aspects of your life. Stop being satisfied with normal/regular/ordinary. Life is too short to hang out hiding in the pack. Don’t look back on your life and realize you’ve wasted it. Make something of yourself the future you will be proud to look back on. Go all-in at FLOW. Be EXTRAORDINARY.
