Any long workout that involves running, bodyweight, and purely aerobic capacity as the dominate energy system this athlete really struggles. Let's call this great person... "Butter Cup". Butter Cup and I had an interesting conversation after the workout when I simply asked "how did you feel?" This lead into the segway of, "I am just not good at bodyweight exercises." BAM!!! It hit me like a ton of bricks! Butter Cup has been working out for a long time, hits pr's almost daily and has some of the best pull ups, push ups, and dips in the gym.
So, why do they think that they are not good at bodyweight exercises, and more importantly how did I overlook this simple, yet relatively large component in their training.... self doubt! Butter Cup feels this way because in the past they have struggled with these movements, however this is a new era baby, and you are ready to go! Self doubt is a mofo and will bring anybody down if you let it. Never set yourself back, or doubt your abilities before you really give it a shot. So, what happened with Butter Cup? Lets just say they are on a new spiritual path inside Flow. In the words of Eleanor Roosevelt, "nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent." Always believe, never doubt and keep working until you can do it.
