Wolves and Sheep

Mental fortitude is one of the most important traits to be valued by the competitor. Whether your sport is soccer, triathlons, business, medicine, or elsewhere, possessing a high degree of mental toughness will take you to the top.

A great place to start cultivating this mentality is in your daily workouts at the gym. Set and achieve small goals for yourself when it comes to your lifts and Sweat scores, looking to constantly make incremental improvements. Your emotions are a powerful tool that you need to learn how to utilize to your benefit. When it is time to turn things up a notch in intensity, know how to get yourself to that level.

For simplicity’s sake, you can choose to either be a wolf or a sheep as an athlete. The wolf is hungry, focused, determined, and has that killer instinct. The sheep is timid, indifferent, and basically just along for the ride. To be a wolf (you want to be a wolf, trust me) you must visualize your success then achieve it. Don’t allow yourself to miss lifts in the gym, always compete and give your best effort even when you are feeling tired, stressed, etc., and don’t allow negative thoughts or self-doubt creep into your mind.

Lastly, recognize that the wolf comes in many different shapes, sizes, ages, personality types, and is just as common amongst females as males. Some people are much more extroverted, while others have a fire in their belly that motivates them and they do not require posturing or bravado to demonstrate it. A wolf in sheep’s clothing if you will. Harness the energy of the gym and train yourself to bring out that stone cold, top of the food-chain, ass-kicking savage that lies dormant inside you!

Yet another benefit of regular exercise...

Does exercise increase sex drive?

Answer: HELL YEAH!!

Here’s how …

Exercising does facilitate a huge boost in the sex life and drive on psychological and physiological levels.

For those of us doing it right, sex is an intense physical activity that requires strength and endurance. Exercising increase both of these while allowing for greater flexibility and an increase blood flow to the genital areas for both men and women. The increase in blow flow to these areas allows for an overall feeling of increased arousal and can help with erectile dysfunction (for men). Those who exercise see an increase in the frequency of sex, orgasms and sexual function. Women who exercise are more quickly aroused and can experience orgasm faster and with more intensity.

Exercise also releases more testosterone in the body for both sexes. In men, this causes and increase in sexual urges, better bone density, increase mass and strength and more frequent erections!!!!! In women, this causes a heightened sexual arousal, a boost in energy, stronger bone and muscle density and more frequent sex!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I had to include all of those exclamation marks. Testosterone also serves other functions such as reducing fatigue and depression, two things that go against sex.

We also get a surge of adrenaline and endorphin when we exercise. These chemicals give a feeling of pleasure, increase sexual arousal and orgasm in women and reduce stress.

For those who feel uncomfortable with their bodies, exercise allows for a better sexier you, which ultimately allows for more confidence and an overall feeling of being sexy. As we know, a big part of sex is about that feeling - how sexy we feel about ourselves. A sexier leaner body allows us to be more comfortable which, of course, leads to better and more relaxed sex.

So with all the other obvious health benefits of exercise, aren’t you happy that sex is included on that list?

Eat. Workout. Be awesome. - Then … have sex!

The Car Salesman Speaks…

I am a Car Salesman!

I have a brand new car to sell you, it will be powerful, drive straight, look great, get looks and kick other cars when push comes to shove. I will sell you this car for a minimal price, all you have to do is drive it hard every now and then, hit the gas for short bursts, push that tach a few times, put new tires on when others get worn out, let it sit in the garage and rest every now and then, and give it quality fuel. In return it will continue to give you results, look good and take care of
you.

The car that I have to sell is YOUR BODY, YOUR LIFE, YOUR FUTURE. If you put the right fuel (food) in the tank, let it rest (sleep), push the tach (high intensity), drive hard (exercise with intensity a few times a week), your body will put out great results. Others will be impressed by your ownership and ask what year it is. They will admire and what to look into a similar car, but don’t understand what you have. They may buy a cheaper, flashier model, but it doesn’t have the engine or frame to last long. They know their car should run on premium, but refuse to pay the price and select 89 octane.

Cost: A mind open to new ideas, eat real food, try new things, smile lots, work hard, lift heavy, run fast, play, play some more and then REST.

Warranty: Lifetime Warranty of Health, Mobility, Medication Free, Activity Rich, Happy Life.

You can’t buy a NEW car from me, drive it for 10 years, beat it up, fuel it incorrectly, just abuse it and expect a NEW car. You can buy a slightly used model, WORK HARD, PUT IN THE TIME and EFFORT, change a few things and get a pretty good car. The choice is yours, this SALE goes on DAILY, my card is attached. Feel free to call anytime, or even better, stop in. I won’t come searching for you in the lot, I will wait for you to seek out a NEW CAR and then do everything in my power to help you enjoy the ride. Sit back, adjust the mirrors, the past is now in the rear view, grab the wheel, put it in gear and press down on the old you and drive o! on a new JOURNEY!

LAW OF THE FARM

I think I remember Stephen Covey in his book Seven Habits of Highly Effective People making reference to what I believe he called “the law of the farm.” The reference was meant to show that most of the truly good things in life take time and can’t be forced or rushed. Covey described the process of farming and alluded to how it requires patience and diligence to grow crops properly. In addition, farming requires belief in the system. The farmer must believe that all the hard work and preparation will eventually yield a long-term result. As a coach, the concept has always stuck with me. The process of exercising is much like farming or like planting a lawn. There are no immediate results from exercise and there are no immediate results from farming.

First, the seeds must be planted. Then fertilizer (nutrition) and water must be applied consistently. Much like fertilizer in farming, too much food can be a detriment to the exerciser. Only the correct amounts cause proper growth. Overfeeding can cause problems, as can underfeeding. As I sit and wait for my lawn to sprout or crops to grow, I feel many of the same frustrations of the new exerciser. When will I see results? How come nothing is happening? All this work and — nothing.

The key is to not quit. Have faith in the process. Continue to add water and wait. Farming and exercising are eerily similar. Continue to exercise and eat well and suddenly a friend or co-worker will say, “Have you lost weight”? "You are looking more fit!" Your reaction might be, “It’s about time someone noticed.” Much like the first blades of grass poking through the ground, you begin to see success. You begin to experience positive feedback. Clothes begin to fit differently.

When my friends talk to me about their frustration with their initial lack of progress in an exercise program, I always bring up the farm analogy. We live in a world obsessed with quick fixes and instant results. This is why the farm analogy can be both informative and comforting.

An exercise program must be approached over a period of weeks and months, not days. The reality is that there is no quick fix, no easy way, no magic weight loss plan, no secret formula to get stronger. There is only the law of the farm. You will reap what you sow. In reality, you will reap what you sow and care for. If you are consistent and diligent with both diet and exercise, you will eventually see results. However, remember much like fertilizer and water, diet and exercise go together.

Try to grow crops or a lawn without water. No amount of effort will overcome the lack of vital nutrients.

The law of the farm.
Plant the seeds.
Feed and water properly.
Wait for results; they will happen, not in days, but in weeks and months.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda. There is a story about a fellow who was really down on his luck. He decided if he won the lotto, he could change his life, that he would do good and make a difference. So, he decided to pray and ask god for him to win the lotto. God answered him and said he would as he could see his heart and his sincerity. The lotto was $200 million - the numbers came out and the fellow didn't win. He spoke to god and asked; "why did you abandon me?" God replied, "at least buy a ticket!"

People talk about what might have been, could have been and should have been if they bothered to try. Maybe join the team, set up a business take the SAT, whatever. Something. No one is going hand you anything in this life. You have to participate in life. Sitting on the sideline you never will win a game.

People make excuses so they can sit in their chair mediocrity and comment about the people who are doing. Get your ass out of the chair and make a difference. Talking about it isn't going to do it. Thinking is a good thing but not to they point of paralysis. Get in the game. Take a chance. Go for it; throw it all against the wall and see what sticks. Opportunity passes in and out of life for and if you don't seize it you will never gain anything. Choose and act.

Winning and losing matters – many of the most valuable life lessons learned in life come from taking a chance and seeing what happens. You will never win or lose unless you try. Everyone is an armchair quarterback. Talking about the people who are on the field, making the play or missing the pass.  Living though the experiences of others. Live through doing, not watching.

What you do with life defines you as a human being. The fights you pick, the stands you make, the things you settle for – is the record or your life and your name. You can choose to be on the sideline or you can choose to be in the games.

Lets see what you got?
